मनुष्य अपने भाव व विचार मौखिक तथा लिखित रूप से व्यक्त करता है जब मनुष्य को किसी व्यक्ति से सीधा संपर्क करके अपनी बात कहने का अवसर नहीं मिलता तो वह अपने विचार उस तक पहुंचाने के लिए लिखित भाषा अपनाता है दूसरे व्यक्तियों से अपना संपर्क बनाए रखने के लिए तथा अपने भावों को उन तक पहुंचाने के लिए पत्र का माध्यम अपनाता है पत्र लेखन एक कला है इस कला में दक्ष होना मनुष्य के व्यक्तित्व को चार चांद लगा देता है अभ्यास के द्वारा इसमें दक्षता प्राप्त की जा सकती है आज के युग में पत्र लेखन का अत्यधिक महत्व है-
